Choosing a System that Meets Your Needs
Selecting the right size of solar system for domestic hot water is
not complicated. Simply count the number of people in your household,
and go with the system that is indicated below:
| People | Model | Solar Panels | kWh / Year | Minimal Savings (1 year, Québec Hydro) | Minimal
Savings (25 years, Québec Hydro, 6% increase per year) |
| 1-3 |
Couple |
1 |
1,725 |
$104 |
$5,678 |
| 3-6 |
Family |
2 |
3,381 |
$203 |
$11,128 |
| 5-9 |
Large Family |
3 |
5,025 |

$16,542 |
| 7-12 |
Small Multi-Family |

6,761 |
$406 |
$22,257 |
Each of these models is based on the same basic technology, but is sized to provide the
optimal production for that size of family. Each kit comes compete with
everything needed for a simple installation.
Please note that the savings indicated above are based on the most
conservative
energy costs we could come up with: Québec has the lowest electricity
rates in the
Canada, and perhaps the world, and even they have been going up.
Natural gas
prices tend to be higher than this, as are the prices for
fuel oil and propane. Moreover, with all of these forms of energy, the
price is only going to go up (or up and down unpredictably over time).
This is very different from the known cost of a solar system.
